The Youth Symphony Orchestra Rijnstreek (JSR) offers young musicians from Leiden and surroundings (the so-called Rijnstreek) the opportunity to gain orchestral experience at their own level. We strive for the highest possible level, in an atmosphere in which everyone feels welcome and comfortable. The Youth Symphony Orchestra Rijnstreek works hard, has fun and you quickly obtain (musical) friendships!

The Youth Symphony Orchestra Rijnstreek is a partnership between the Leiden Music School (BplusC) and the Leiden Youth Orchestra Foundation (Stichting Jeugdorkesten Leiden).

The Three JSR Orchestras

Depending on age and experience, the childrens play in one of three orchestras:

Click the link above to read more about one of the three orchestra’s in an English.

The orchestras have room for all orchestral instruments (wind and string instruments, harp, percussion) and piano. Pianists also play percussion in the Junior and Symphony Orchestra. Children who play the recorder can also participate in the Children’s Orchestra.

The Children’s Orchestra consists of two sub-orchestra’s:

  • KO Leiden
  • KO Oegstgeest

Leiden Children’s Orchestra Leiden rehearses on Monday afternoons. Children’s Orchestra Oegstgeest rehearses on Wednesday afternoons.

There is a break halfway through the rehearsal time, with lemonade, and the children usually go outside to play.
Approximately ten times a year, there is a joint rehearsal with both children’s orchestras.”
